Improving Performance and Reducing Overhead Expense

A coffee processing plant had 187 employees, 50 of them exempt, and poor efficiencies. A Selby Group consultant worked with the plant manager to reorganize the plant, reduce the exempt headcount by over half, and develop the leadership and management skills of the lead supervisors. Not only did the plant make better utilization of its lines and reduce layers of management, the previously untapped skills of the lead operators were unleashed and they formed a tight team that managed all day-to-day operations previously deemed too advanced for high-school-educated workers.
